The MTG Edge of Eternities expansion brings exciting new Commander preconstructed decks to the table, offering players immediate playability right out of the box. Unlike the multi-deck Final Fantasy Universes Beyond release, this set focuses on two strategically distinct archetypes that showcase the set’s new mechanics while maintaining an accessible price point. These decks are designed to provide excellent value for both new and experienced Commander players seeking fresh gameplay experiences.

The two available Commander decks present complementary playstyles:

  • World Shaper (Black/Red/Green – Jund colors)
  • Counter Intelligence (Blue/Red/White – Esper colors with Red splash)
  • One of the most exciting revelations is the return of the Kindred card type, which hasn’t been prominently featured since Future Sight and the Lorwyn block. The World Shaper deck introduces Formless Genesis, enabling players to create Shapeshifter tokens while utilizing the Retrace mechanic for additional casting flexibility. This mechanic allows recasting by discarding a land, perfectly synergizing with the deck’s land-focused strategy.

    World Shaper Deck Analysis

The World Shaper Commander precon embodies the “sacrifice lands, grow back stronger” philosophy with remarkable consistency. This Jund-colored deck features two synergistic commanders: Hearthhull, the Worldseed and Szarel, Genesis Shepherd. Hearthhull represents a Spacecraft vehicle with the new Station mechanic, transforming into a formidable 6/7 creature with Flying, Vigilance, and Haste once it reaches Station 8.

Hearthhull’s primary ability creates incredible card advantage – tap it and sacrifice a land to draw two cards while allowing an additional land play that turn. Once Stationed at 8+, it evolves into a win condition where each land sacrifice drains opponents for two life. This creates a powerful engine that rewards strategic land management.

Szarel, Genesis Shepherd complements this strategy perfectly as a 2/5 Flying creature that enables land plays from your graveyard. This recursion ability turns Hearthhull’s land sacrifices into sustainable value. The deck includes support cards like Oracle of Mul Daya for additional land plays, while Szarel’s secondary ability distributes +1/+1 counters whenever you sacrifice nontoken permanents.

    Key Deck Components:

  • 1 Szarel, Genesis Shepherd
  • 1 Eumidian Wastewaker
  • 1 Braids, Arisen Nightmare
  • 1 Moraug, Fury of Akoum
  • 1 Centaur Vinecrasher
  • 1 Multani, Yavimaya’s Avatar
  • 1 Titania, Protector of Argoth
  • 1 Korvold, Fae-Cursed King
  • 1 Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest
  • 1 Omnath, Locus of Rage
  • 1 Juri, Master of the Revue
  • 1 Uurg, Spawn of Turg
  • 1 Hearthhull, the Worldseed
  • 1 Exploration Broodship
  • 1 Hammer of Purphoros
  • 1 Hammer of Purphoros
  • 1 Binding the Old Gods
  • 1 Windgrace’s Judgment
  • 1 Planetary Annihilation
  • 1 Splendid Reclamation
  • 1 Escape to the Wilds
  • 1 Terramorphic Expanse
  • 1 Cabaretti Courtyard
  • Strategy Tip: Focus on establishing land recursion early with Szarel, then use Hearthhull for card advantage. Avoid sacrificing lands without guaranteed recursion unless you’re close to the Station 8 threshold for the life drain effect.

    Counter Intelligence Deck Analysis

The Counter Intelligence deck delivers an artifact-focused proliferation strategy that will delight players who enjoy incremental advantage and multiple win conditions. Featuring two versatile commanders – Inspirit, Flagship Vessel and Kilo, Apogee Mind – this deck offers flexibility in how you approach each game. The artifact-boosting, counter-proliferation theme evokes nostalgia for Esper strategies from the Alara block while introducing modern mechanics.

Inspirit, Flagship Vessel stands out as a 5/5 Station vehicle with an incredibly efficient mana value of 3. At Station 1+, it can distribute either a +1/+1 counter or two charge counters to another artifact, accelerating your board development. When it reaches Station 8+, it becomes a flying creature and grants Hexproof and Indestructible to your other artifacts, creating a nearly unstoppable board state.

Kilo, Apogee Mind provides consistent proliferation as a 3/3 creature with Haste. Its simple but powerful ability triggers whenever it becomes tapped, not just when attacking. This means any tapping effect can fuel your counter strategies, making it incredibly versatile in artifact-heavy builds.

This deck comes packed with powerful inclusions: Organic Extinction provides selective board wiping, Wake the Past recovers lost artifacts, and Cyberdrive Awakener can transform your non-creature artifacts into 4/4 flying threats. The crown jewel is Darksteel Reactor – an indestructible win condition that victories the game immediately upon reaching 20 charge counters, bypassing traditional upkeep triggers.

    Key Deck Components:

  • 1 Patrolling Peacemaker
  • 1 Chrome Host Seedshark
  • 1 Cyberdrive Awakener
  • 1 Emry, Lurker of the Loch
  • 1 Phyrexian Metamorph
  • 1 Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus
  • 1 Alibou, Ancient Witness
  • 1 Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain
  • 1 Crystalline Crawler
  • 1 Threefold Thunderhulk
  • 1 Enthusiastic Mechanaut
  • 1 Inspirit, Flagship Vessel
  • 1 Uthros Research Craft
  • 1 Gavel of the Righteous
  • 1 Empowered Autogenerator
  • 1 Everflowing Chalice
  • 1 Ripples of Potential
  • 1 Swords to Plowshares
  • 1 Thirst for Knowledge
  • 1 Experimental Augury
  • 1 Universal Surveillance
  • 1 The Mycosynth Gardens
  • 1 Temple of Enlightenment
  • Advanced Combo: Resourceful Defense allows counter redistribution when permanents leave play. Combine with Astral Cornucopia (enters with X charge counters) and proliferation effects from Thrummingbird or Ripples of Potential for rapid victory conditions.

    Advanced Strategies and Optimization

Common World Shaper Mistakes: New pilots often sacrifice lands too aggressively without establishing recursion first. Always ensure you have Szarel or similar effects active before going all-in on land sacrifice. Another frequent error is missequencing land plays – remember that additional land plays from Hearthhull happen after the sacrifice, so plan your land drops accordingly.

Counter Intelligence Pitfalls: Avoid overextending with artifacts before establishing protection. While the deck has recovery options, smart players will hold key artifacts until you can protect them with Inspirit’s Station 8 ability. Don’t underestimate the value of charge counters on utility artifacts – sometimes a simple Everflowing Chalice can become a game-ending threat with enough proliferation.

World Shaper Upgrades: Consider adding Crucible of Worlds for additional land recursion, Azusa, Lost but Seeking for more land plays, and Thespian’s Stage to copy utility lands. These additions strengthen the core strategy without diluting the deck’s identity.

Counter Intelligence Enhancements: Include The Ozolith for counter preservation, Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus for doubled proliferation, and All Will Be One for additional win conditions. These cards amplify the deck’s strengths while providing backup plans.

Playstyle Recommendations: World Shaper thrives in mid-range battles where you can establish incremental advantage through land recursion. Counter Intelligence excels in longer games where proliferation can accumulate overwhelming value. Adjust your mulligan decisions based on whether you’re facing aggressive or control opponents.
